Summer is a great time to take your bike on the open road. But if yours hasn’t been out for a spin lately, follow these maintenance tips to get it back in riding condition. At Wolf Motorsport s, we provide everything to get your motorcycle or dirt bike road-ready, including routine maintenance and repairs in Elkhart Lake.
Start With Fresh Fluids
If you haven’t used your bike in the past few seasons, drain and replace any fuel that’s been left in the tank. If the gas is unstabilized, it can start to go bad after 30 days. This is because when oxygen is exposed to gas, it changes its chemistry, which can cause gum and varnish deposits. Unstabilized gas shouldn’t be used if it’s older than six months, while stabilized gas needs to be replaced after six to twelve months. This is also a good time to check and change the oil level, filter, and brake fluid.
Check Parts
Start by testing the battery to decide whether it needs a charge or to be replaced. Next, examine the bike’s frame and suspension, looking for any cracks. Make sure the fasteners are tightened and lubricate any bearings. Look over the tires, making sure the tread isn’t worn down, and add air if the tire pressure is low. Make sure all the lights are working, including brake lights, headlights, turning lights, and trail lights. Check the drive train for rust, and clean and lubricate the chain.
